Book club - The Nativity Play

"The Nativity Play" by Mick Inkpen and Nick Butterworth is a perfect book if yout child has school Nativity coming up. Stripy towels make a perfect shepherd outfit and an angel who feels beautiful in her outfit, asks for a magic wand, one of the shepherds has to wave to his parents in the audience before he gets on with his role, wise men present baby Jesus with some bath salts and the wise men's camel is struggling with the stairs!

All of it together with the very cute illustrations really puts you in the right spirit of seeing a lot of 4-5 year olds perform!
Seeing my daughter's first school Nativity was very special with plenty of very emotional and proud parents! I have only just managed it without needing a tissue!

Christmas traditions

"It is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty founder was a child Himself" - Charles Dickens

I love seeing Christmas through my girl's eyes! It brings back so many memories, and even though in my childhood it was the New Year's day, not Christmas. Christmas doesn't really feel "real" untill the Christmas tree is decorated! I still remember some of the Christmas tree decorations we had, most of them were from glass and I remember unwrapping them before hanging on the Christmas tree and then wrapping them before putting away.

I wanted to have some of those memories captured for my girls so I was determined even though now when Lucy is back from school there isn't not much light left! I have posted this photo on Facebook and I promised I would explain how I shot it - I turned the main overhead light off, so I had the Christmas lights and I have also used a work lamp, similar to this one - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60066540/. Very technical, right!

Even with a school uniform and no natural light I still love these images, I hope the girls will enjoy looking at them when they grow up.

Siblings

November and December are very hectic for everyone, trying to fit in the meaningful gift finding for those who have everything they need. And what better gift for grangparents than the images of their beloved grandchildren :) And artwork for your own house. I've been busy photographing for the "gifts" in the last few weeks and some of them will have to wait till after Christmas to be shared! So here is the session that is definitely safe to share!

Book club: "Laura's Christmas Star"

A lovely story by Klaus Baumgart.

A family is going to visit their Aunt Martha whose Christmas tree "looks magical". In fact, it's "huge and sparkly and it glitters like a zillion stars". Of course, little Tommy and Laura are so excited before their big journey, they even wake up in the middle of the night and get dressed thinking it's already morning. But, unfortunately, when the morning eventually comes and they start driving through the country, the car breaks down!
And so, by the time the car is fixed, they have to go back home. Little Tommy is upset more than anyone else and his sister Laura finds a little tree that was left behind - "Come indoors with me, you look owfully lonely out here on your own". And then with the help of Laura's special secret star it becomes sparkly and glittery just as Tommy wanted.
Great illustrations and a lots of kindness in this book!
